There are some important changes coming to the Neighbourhood Mail Campaigns that agents send through Canada Post, leveraging RE/MAX’s industry leading discount.

We must make some updates in order to comply with provincial recycling programs such as Ontario’s Blue Box Regulation and Recycle BC, which aim to reduce waste and protect the environment. Click here to view the provincial recycling programs. Changes to these provincial programs in the last few years are meant to shift the responsibility for recycling materials away from municipalities and on to the actual producers of applicable materials, including the paper used in agents neighbourhood mail campaigns. The programs require “Producers” – including brand owners – to be fully accountable for the collection, reuse, refurbishment, and/or recycling of blue box materials that bear a brand’s trademarks.

Agents, and likely many Broker/Owners, are sending thousands of campaigns per year to homeowners across the country. Due to the massive volume in weight of materials sent by RE/MAX agents through Canada Post, which are then recycled at the consumer level, RE/MAX is considered a producer of materials. The financial burden on RE/MAX to pay for the recycling of the mailers is significant, and we must ensure that RE/MAX is compliant with the regulatory requirements. To meet the needs of the agents and to ensure compliance, we will be making a change to the access of the Canada Post volume discount and extending this initiative to affiliates across Canada. Most provinces have already implemented or will be implementing their own extended responsibility program regulations in the very near future.

By adopting this initiative, RE/MAX ensures the integrity of the Canada Post Program, maintaining its value as a crucial offering for RE/MAX agents.

Starting on January 1, 2025, RE/MAX affiliates (excluding Quebec) will be required to use one of the following RE/MAX Approved Suppliers for your direct mail neighbourhood campaigns in order to take advantage of the up to 40% off volume discount with Canada Post:

These RE/MAX Approved Suppliers are also Canada Post partners, and they will ensure a seamless and cost-effective experience for creating, printing, and sending your direct mailers. Learn more about these trusted suppliers here.

We understand the importance of your direct mail campaigns and the valuable relationships you have with your current printers. The suppliers we have partnered with are a starting point, as we plan to explore more printers in the near future. We also aim to collaborate with you and your printers to maintain access to the Canada Post volume discount, while ensuring the printers you are working with are able to track and report certain data points and assist in recouping a small portion of the fees RE/MAX is responsible for as part of the provincial recycle mandates.

If you have a printer you are currently working with and would like us to review and potentially include them as an approved supplier, please send the information to approvedsupplier@remax.com.

Additionally, if you want to learn more about these changes and why they are coming into effect, you can access and watch the recording of the ‘Ask Us Anything’ session held on July 30th here, as well as access the updated FAQ here.
